J and I are first-time homeowners! We went out with our realtor a week ago to look at 12 more houses (I’d estimate we visited 30 houses in three days) and fell in love with the first one we saw. Last Friday we signed the paperwork, and on October 17, the keys will be ours. Today is the home inspection–fingers crossed that it all goes well.
Like most of the homes in our price range, this one was also built in the 1960s, but the current owners completely renovated the entire house: new wood floors throughout, new tiles and fixtures in the bathrooms, a new master bath and walk-in closet and a new custom kitchen. It literally looks like a Pottery Barn catalog. The only thing we’ll need to do when we move in is buy a refrigerator and a washer/dryer. I’d also like to paint a couple of rooms a more modern color, such as the kitchen. (Maybe pale lemon yellow, seafoam green or just crisp white? Any suggestions?) Then we can build a fence around the backyard and get ourselves a dog!
We’re almost real grown-up people!
Congrats!!! I’ve been anxiously awaiting pictures. That kitchen looks awesome! Love those cabinets!!
Katie, thanks!! I can’t wait to display all of the white dishware I got for my wedding in those cabinets with the glass doors.
Oh my goodness it’s lovely!! I actually really like the kitchen color! (Tho I think a more lemon-y yellow would also be really cute.) I considered painting our breakfast nook something along those lines but chickened out in the end. Picking paint colors is so scary.. just remember that compared to the chip color, the paint will look much darker/brighter on the wall, and that it will look very different at night vs the day.. and the lighting in the room will also make a big difference. Have fun and congrats again!
Wendy,
Thanks for commenting! I don’t hate the current color of the kitchen, but I’m definitely leaning towards something lighter. Picking paint will be an adventure, that’s for sure! I haven’t been able to paint any place I’ve lived in since my childhood bedroom!
Congrats on your new house, too. I can’t wait to see photos.
